2023 Fall Winter Wrap
It was a busy last quarter of 2023! There were many gigs, jams, recordings, and performances. I want to name them all, but here are a few highlights:
NYC - I went to NYC and had a great time visiting musician friends, checking out the music scene, and the NYC vibes were amazing! Too much to do in such a short time, glad I made it!
Jams - I regularly attend the jam at Madrone Art Bar in San Francisco, Sunday evenings, so there were some awesome jams there and it is always an honor to play along side Mike Olmos, and fun to jam with regulars and surprise musicians who pop in. Always a great time!
Gigs - ‘tis the season so there were a bunch of private Holiday gigs like corporate holiday parties, churches, law offices, restaurants. In community at the annual Jack London Tree Lighting event was a festive way to ring in the holiday with Oaktown Jazz Workshop. There were numerous bars gigs like the Seven West performance with Britney’s Peers doing a Halloween gig in West Oakland that was hella fun - looking forward to more in 2024!
Big Band - All quarter at the California Jazz Conservatory I played trumpet with ensemble director Dave Lefebvre This 19-piece ensemble covers classic and contemporary repertoire for big band. Original compositions by ensemble members are also workshopped and performed.
Monterey Jazz Festival ‘23 - I attended and thoroughly enjoyed performances by: Ambrose Akinmusire and Oumou Sangare, Christian McBride, and Snarky Puppy.
Recording - I performed trumpet with singer songwriter August Lee Stevens at Women’s Audio Mission on song In My Head available on all streaming platforms
Teaching - at Oaktown Jazz Workshops, YMCO Youth Musicians Choral Orchestra, Skyline High School in Oakland, Willard Middle School in Berkeley, and privately. I taught, and I continue to teach elementary through high school students in group and private lessons. I work with an amazing range of students who are growing and learning music. Our work together and their engagement brightens my weekly schedule of teaching.
